Course Description

This advanced course explores the development of dramatic expression from 1890 through the 21st century across two related media: the stage and the screen. Students will read, critically analyze, discuss, and evaluate selected plays from this period, including works by dramatists such as Ibsen, O'Neill, Pirandello, Lorca, Miller, Williams, and Albee. These dramatic works will be paired with selected films that align thematically and historically to examine shared narratives, aesthetic shifts, and evolving cultural concerns in modern and contemporary performance. Attending a performance may be required.
