An investigation of the history, philosophy and cultural dimensions of counseling with a specific emphasis on marriage, couple, and family counseling. Topics include the counselor's professional identity as well as ethics, training, credentialing, licensure and laws unique to marriage, couple, and family counselors. Practice considerations include the sociology of the family and impact of systems as it relates to contemporary family dynamics, conceptualization of recovery models, delivery settings, community interventions, advocacy and third party payment.
